چکیده

This paper gives an overview of the potential of the current implementation of portable components for Geoscientific Information Systems (GIS) within the GISIG actmap-project. The computing problems addressed are multifold and for the first time presented here: With Active Source having extended the framework for conventional GIS, new features have been enabled like the use of Grid Computing and cluster resources, dynamical visualisation, and High Performance Computing (HPC) in order to be used for Geographic Grid Computing. Base of scientific content can for example be geophysical information like environmental or seismological data, geographical and spatial information using Geographic Data Infrastructures (GDI), as well as data from industrial, economic, cultural, and social sources. An integrated solution for monitoring, accounting, billing supporting the geo-information market can be incorporated into this context. An outlook is given for Geographic Grid Computing e.g. for the extended use of Web Services and GDI in the future.

GIS-based Simulation of Soft Geo-objects

To simulate dynamic soft geo-objects and reflect geoscientific laws, the authors discuss the characteristics, mathematical expression, parameter representation and rendering of GIS Flow Element (FE) and GIS Soft Voxel (SV). The simulation and rendering algorithms of GIS FE and GIS SV are based on particle system and metaball technology in computer graphics. The main differences are that GIS FE ...

Extending the HPC-ICTM Geographical Categorization Model for Grid Computing

This paper presents the results obtained with an extension of the HPC-ICTM model for grid computing. The HPC-ICTM is a multi-layered interval tessellation-based model for the categorization of geographic regions for high performance computing. The ICTM model is executed as a Bag-of-Tasks on the OurGrid environment. For each layer, the categorizer process is applied separately, without communica...

Java: the next Language for Hpc?

The next big advance in the area of high performance computing (HPC) will involve connecting together of compute resources, data resources, experimental instruments and post-processing visualisation equipment into so-called computational grids. It is widely accepted that Java will be a useful technology for developing middleware technology to support grid computing. However, the use of Java as ...

Spatial Interpolation: From Two to Three Dimensions

Interpolation methods are an important part in a geographical information system (GIS) and have been used for years to model elevation data. They are crucial in the visualisation process (generation of contours), for the conversion of data from one format to another, to have a better understanding of a dataset or simply to identify bad samples. The result of interpolation—usually a surface that...

Virtual Resource Management Based Meteorological Computational Grid

Meteorology is one of the main application areas of high performance computing (HPC) technologies, it is impossible for efficient and accurate weather forecasting and meteorological services without the support of HPC resources. As a kind of networked HPC application environment, meteorological computational Grid makes an integration of diverse computing resources using the Grid technology, pro...
